So, I’ve been writing a bit lately…
And I’ve realised that it’s always the stuff I’m waaaay too busy to write that is the most important to write. It’s the dodgy draft that comes together at 1am that is actually the most important deadline of my life thus far. Well, maybe exaggerating, but I am so bad at picking the moments of importance.
Are you? Is anyone else like this? Or just me?
I can look back on my life and think on the things I really thought were “it” and they were pit-stops on the way to somewhere else. But I thought it was the biz. the centre. the earth, the moon, the sun. And yet, thinking this was about as appropriate as deciding to move into a 7 Eleven store, and parking the car in the lot, bringing my suitcase filled with meager belongings and setting them up next to the ice-cream refrigerator. It’s not that the people I met and worked with weren’t totally significant or that pieces of them don’t still litter my heart. It’s that the space I had to occupy was entirely wrong.
And yet, other things that I struggled through, secretly hating (oh Lord forgive me!), were the things that have in hindsight brought me great joy.
Been reflecting on the very human inability to perceive…
But thank God that Yahweh, He who is ever the same and who keeps His promise says this to Jeremiah
This is what the Lord says: “When seventy years are completed for Babylon, I will come to you and fulfill my good promise to bring you back to this place. For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Thenyou will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.I will be found by you,” declares the Lord, “and will bring you back from captivity.I will gather you from all the nations and places where I have banished you,” declares the Lord, “and will bring you back to the place from which I carried you into exile.” - Jeremiah 29:10-14
somehow, deep down I know this has relevance for us today too…
